Is that Zara purchase a good idea or just a moment of weakness? 👀 I London Tech Week Interviews
About this video
I had such a fun time speaking with Simona about her startup Tailored at The London Tech Week The bit that stuck with me most - she wants to solve the wardrobe regret problem. That thing where you buy something you love in the moment and it just sits there with the tag on. She also used her physics degree to set up a convex mirror in the middle of a tech conference so people could take outfit photos. Scrappy and smart! #LondonTechWeek #Startup #Founder #WomenInTech #AIApp

We're here at the London Tech Week, and this Startup Alley. So, let's talk to some of the startups [music] I've going to heard about. >> I'm Simona, and I'm the founder and CEO of Tailored. This is a fashion tech startup and app which helps you decide what to wear for big events like conferences, because actually last year at London Tech Week, I spent so much time deciding what should I wear. >> I feel like I need this kind of app every day.
>> Welcome to try it out, and this is my fun way to market it. >> Yeah. >> decide what to wear. You can scan the QR code and upload a photo of your outfit. You can take a picture.
>> And I have >> for your convenience to take a picture and >> So, I take a photo of my So, get my fit check. >> Yes, you're getting your fit check. It's going to evaluate your style, what can you do better, what can be done very well. >> Okay. >> And you can also download the full app.
>> Wow. >> All right, five. Look at that. >> What can be improved? Add a statement necklace.
>> So, something maybe a little bigger, you know. >> Consider a fitted blazer for polish. >> Okay, if you want to be more corporate. >> Swap the bag for a straw bag. Definitely, this [laughter] is >> So, you can actually test our app.
You can download it in the App Store. I've been developing it for a little over three three months. >> So, are you the founder? >> I am the founder. I have a co-founder.
We developed it together, completely two people's job. So, nothing perfect. >> And you do it full time now? >> Yes, I decided, you know what, I'm going to quit my corporate job, which was a big step, but you know, in your 20s, you can do something risky, and do my startup. >> What what did you do before?
>> I used to develop AI applications for big clients like, I know, the UK government. >> A big one. >> Okay. >> And then I decided, you know what, I'm going to risk it all, start my own company, and fix a problem which I think way too many people in consulting have cuz it's a very image driven industry but like as much as we don't want the first impressions matter. And as well as a big thing about from it helping you decide what to wear, it actually tells you whether something you're thinking about is a good purchase or not.
>> Yeah, so that's the thing I wanted to say. I was on Zara website the other day browsing and they came out with this feature where you're supposed to be able to try on the outfit. I don't think it works really well which I'm surprised about, but I think in general it would help so much if all of these companies were able to show you exactly like how you look like. >> to look. >> Yeah.
>> That's something which we're thinking of doing but Tailored actually looks at purchasing from a different angle. I think a lot of us go like even if you try it out in person, you're just in the moment thinking, "Oh, does this look good? Does it look good on me? Is it nice?" We don't really think about do we have somewhere something to wear it with?
Where can I wear it? Does it actually flatter my body? Does it fit my style? Or did I just see you wearing this beautiful jacket and I just want to buy the same one? >> I think what I would love is being able to know what is in my wardrobe.
Exactly. And then if that new outfit that I want to buy is going to match the other stuff. >> Already done for you girl. Let me tell you. So for example, that's the latest thing.
I can show it to the camera. So I was actually the same like you, went to Massimo Dutti and I was like, "Should I buy this for the conference?" And then I just went and I was like, "Okay, there's a lot of potential outfits." But oh my god, I have so many similar trousers. And the ones which you told me it's similar is actually these trousers.
You can almost don't tell the difference if I'm far away between this dark navy blue and actually black. So it gives me an actual score. Is it good? Does it fit my style, my body? And you can even generate outfits.
So see how it's going to look with your clothes. >> I love that. >> So, it's actually a a much smarter way to purchase without it being like, "Oh my god, I love it. It's so nice." But then, it just takes away the tag on it.
>> It's like such an interesting way to market it. It's very low cost, but it's a lot of ingenuity. >> So, I'm a physics person, actually. I graduated physics. So, as you can see, I have a convex mirror so that you can take a full picture.
Regardless that I'm now in fashion tech, I've actually used my physics knowledge to make a marketing strategy. >> This is awesome. >> even see the logo in the back.
